Recently, my friend George Armstrong and I published a review on dimensionality reduction methods for microbiome data. We talk about the different problems in microbiome data (compositionality, sparsity, etc.) and how existing tools work (or don’t work!) to address them. I had a lot of fun working on it and I hope it helps people make sense of dimensionality reduction. It’s an analysis that we all do for every paper but there hasn’t really been a lot of comprehensive overview of what all the different methods do and why. Check it out here at Frontiers in Bioinformatics!
